Public Union for Gender Equality and Women’s Initiatives (GEWI) has held a press conference dedicated to the results of its 2009 projects

Public Union for Gender Equality and Women’s Initiatives (GEWI) has held a press conference dedicated to the results of its 2009 projects on July 2, 2010 at Amirov Hall of Hyatt Tower I. The representatives of related state agencies, local and international organizations, NGOs, foreign embassies and Mass Media outlets have participated in the Conference.

Ms. Ulviyya Mammadova, the Executive Director of made an opening speech of the Conference summarizing the activity of GEWI for the past year and talked about the achievemnts .

“Gender mainstreaming: The Role of Civil Society” – a book/report featuring the results of Monitoring National Gender Mechanism done by GEWI was also presented at the Conference. The monitoring and its findings were presented by Yelena Gasimova, the expert of the monitoring.

Later, Gulara Afandiyeva - a gender trainer and colleague of GEWI gave additional information on the work of GEWI’s activities in the regions. Representatives from regions that GEWI worked with also were present and made speeches at the Conference.

Each presentation was followed by question and answer session and comments.

Among those that actively participated in the Conference and made interesting comments were Envera Selimovich - the head of United Naitons Department of Information, Yegana Jafarova - sector chairperson at Ombudsman’s office, Gulshan Pashayeva – a colleague of Strategic Research Center and others. Elchin Guliyev – head of human rights and legislation sector of Milli Majlis and others also participated in the Conference.
